Consortium to decarbonize Sakhalin Island with fuel cell transport

Rusatom Overseas JSC, KAMAZ PTC, Far East and Arctic Development Corporation JSC and Sakhalin Region Development Corporation JSC have signed an MOU to cooperate in the development and application of hydrogen technologies in the transport sector on Sakhalin Island.

The parties will consider jointly participating in the hydrogen fleet development project. They will also discuss launching eco-friendly hydrogen fuel cell transport on the territory of the Sakhalin Region.

"ROSATOM, together with top Russian and international players in the hydrogen technology market, is actively involved in the development of transport projects that use hydrogen fuel cells in the Far East and other regions of Russia. In particular, we consider hydrogen technology in the passenger and freight transport to be highly promising, potentially hugely contributing to achieving the Sakhalin Region’s decarbonization goals. Undoubtedly, the participation of such a major player as KAMAZ in the project will give fresh impetus to the development of hydrogen economy on the island, where the first significant projects of this kind can be implemented in the foreseen future," said Anton Moskvin, Vice President for Marketing and Business Development of Rusatom Overseas JSC.
