LONGi Hydrogen wins bid for green ammonia demonstration project

Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd. announced that LONGi Hydrogen Energy won the bid for the Da'an Wind and Solar Green H2 Synthesis Ammonia Integration Demonstration Project (Da'an Project) as the first candidate to win the bid for a total of 15 sets of 1000Nm³/h electrolytic water H2 production system.

The H2 Energy Promotes Jilin Action and Da'an Wind and Solar Green H2 Synthesis Ammonia Integration Demonstration Project Launch Activities were held at the Clean Energy Chemical Industry Park in Western Jilin (Da'an Project).

The State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) and Jilin Electric Power Co., Ltd. adhere to the innovative practice of ensuring national energy security, orderly advancing the goal of carbon neutrality, and accelerating the large-scale and high-quality development of emerging industries, thereby paving the way for a new era in H2 energy utilization and green electricity conversion.

The Da'an project is designed according to the new idea of green H2 system of green H2 consumption of green electricity, green ammonia consumption of green H2, and integration of source-grid-load-storage. The total investment of the project is $920 MM, and the construction site is located in the west of Jilin (Da'an) Clean energy chemical industrial park, the project will build a total installed capacity of 800 MW of wind and solar, a new 220-kV booster station, supporting 40 MW/80 MWh energy storage, and a new 46000Nm³/h hybrid H2 production (50 sets of PEM H2 production systems, 39 sets of alkaline H2 production system), 60,000Nm³ H2 storage and 180,000 tons of synthetic ammonia plant, pre-reduced CO₂ emissions of 650,000 tpy.

The project not only aims to open the entire industrial chain of H2 energy and promote the construction of a new energy system but has also achieved six No.1 technologies in China and three leading technologies worldwide. Furthermore, it has been listed as a key project in 2022 by Jilin Province and recognized as a green electricity conversion industry benchmark project by SPIC.

As a provider of large-scale green H2 electrolyzers and solutions, LONGi Hydrogen successfully completed the shipment of the world’s first 10,000-ton green refining and chemical demonstration project named, Sinopec’s green H2 project, in 2022. The technology level of the product and delivery capabilities have gained initial market validation.

The Da’an project is the world’s largest green synthetic ammonia project that was launched this year. A total of 39 sets of 1000-Nmynthetic ammonia project has been implemented this year. The bidding is divided into 4 sections, and LONGi Hydrogen won 15 sets of 1000Nm³/h electrolytic water H2 production system, with a market share of 38.5%, ranking first in the bidding.

LONGi H2 has conducted several months of research and demonstration on the Da’an project, and proposed suitable product technical solutions for the scenarios of renewable energy H2 production and synthetic ammonia terminal applications:

First, provide 15 sets of products with international certification for system safety and energy consumption for off-grid hybrid H2 production. Three sets of 4-to-1 H2 production systems are used for flexible ammonia synthesis (every four 1000Nm³/h electrolyzers correspond to one gas-liquid separation skid, and the H2 production capacity of the system reaches 4000Nm³/h), and 3 sets of 1-to-1 electrolytic H2 production systems are used for DC microgrid.

Second, provide the latest technology for off-grid H2 production. Realize the perfect combination of high current density and high H2 production, optimize the structure of the gas-liquid separation frame to make it more compact, and effectively reduce the system investment.

Third, provide supporting equipment and solutions for new energy flexible H2 production. The product has a wide range of adjustment capabilities, and it is compatible with IGBT power supplies and thyristor power supplies at the same time. It also has a fast power regulation speed, which can perfectly meet the adjustment needs of large-scale wind-solar H2 production under fluctuating conditions.

In the process of its development, LONGi Hydrogen will continue to adhere to the design concept of safe and reliable, efficient and value-added, continuously increase investment in scientific and technological research and development, actively promote technological and product innovation, and focus on improving equipment automation capabilities to create a more digital and intelligent chemical industry. The plant provides global customers with electrolyzers and green power-based green H2 solutions. According to BNEF, LONGi's Hydrogen energy production capacity (1.5 GW) attained the first rank globally in 2022, and it is scheduled to reach 5-10GW by the end of 2025, providing reliable value-added delivery guarantees for large-scale green H2 projects around the world.
