(ICIS)—Spain’s Ministry for the Ecological Transition the Demographic Challenge (MITECO) has launched a second call for incentive program 4 with an additional €66.6 MM available, it was announced August 2, 2023.
The second call has been launched with funding from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR) Next Generation EU, with the additional funding in addition to the €40 MM from the first call. The second call seeks to further promote the development of research projects, innovative pilot schemes and training within key technologies within the renewable H2 chain.
A minimum investment of €500,000 per project will be available, with qualifying characteristics set by the Institute for the Diversification and Saving of Energy (IDAE) which is attached to MITECO, who will be responsible for managing the grants on a competitive basis.
Applications can be made between September 8, 2023 and November 7, 2023. The awards of the grant will be made according to technical characteristics, economic viability, viability of the project, technological scalability, market potential and positive impacts on the local area.
The second call of incentive program 4 is part of the roadmap of renewable H2 and its sectoral integration project, which aims to boost renewable H2 generation in Spain.
Spain has ambitions to be a key supplier of renewable H2 to northwest Europe in the coming years due to its abundance of renewable potential and geographical location able to use pipelines as opposed to a maritime mechanism. Spain’s draft update of the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan aims for 11 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030.
