Major milestone for $2-B Hydrogen Headstart program as EOIs open

The Australian Hydrogen Council welcomes the launch of the evidence of insurability (EOI) process for the $2-B Hydrogen Headstart program by the Australian Rewewable Energy Agency (ARENA), a significant policy critical to the future of the Australian H2 industry.

Dr. Fiona Simon, CEO of the Australian Hydrogen Council said, “We are very pleased that the Federal Government has acted quickly following industry consultation on the design of the $2-B Hydrogen Headstart program and expedited the EOI process.

“AHC called for the Federal Government to act quickly to ensure H2 projects in Australia have certainty in the face of fierce global market competition, and we are pleased they have recognized the urgency.

“We’re at a critical stage where we need to get large H2 projects off the ground so we can scale up to gigawatt capacity. Hydrogen Headstart can make a significant difference by providing production credits for projects that will produce renewable H2 or derivates at scale.

“AHC is committed to working with the Federal Government as it refreshes the National Hydrogen Strategy and continues its response to the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act.

“This is the swift action we need to remain competitive across the global H2 industry and we hope for further investment in Hydogen Headstart to support the large pipeline of H2 projects underway in Australia.”
