According to CNN, two French scientists discovered a potentially massive deposit of white H2 beneath northeastern France. White H2 is a naturally produced or present type of H2 that produces only water when burned, making it an attractive clean energy source.
Commercial H2 is produced in an energy-intensive process almost entirely powered by fossil fuels. White H2 could be an untapped clean-burning energy source, but production remains small-scale and expensive. A catalyst for the current interest in white H2 can be traced to Mali, where a gas containing 98% H2 was found in 2011 and is still being produced.
