According to Reuters, a study commissioned by Germany's storage operators' group, INES, suggests that the country's future H2 demand may fall short of the baseline assumed by the government's plans to expand its gas network.
The report recommends storing more H2 at home and exploring domestic storage options to reduce the need for imports. The FNB plan, which envisages H2 use of 279 TWhr/yr by 2032, could be met with border trading points of less than 10 GWhr/hr of imports, compared to the 59 GWhr/hr envisioned under the FNB plan.
The study highlights the potential for investment savings in domestic H2 storage, which would be beneficial for Germany's green H2 decarbonization plans.
