Charbone Hydrogène finalizes arrangements with Sorel-Tracy to construct a green H2 project in Quebec

Charbone Hydrogène announced that the city of Sorel-Tracy and Charbone Hydrogène Québec Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Charbone, have finalized all necessary arrangements to move forward on the next steps towards building the site of the region’s first green H2 facility located along the steel highway (Highway 30).

Phase 1 of the development of the Sorel-Tracy green H2 plant, with a production capacity of around 200 kg/d, should begin in the coming weeks. As previously announced, Charbone tapped renewable energy construction leader, EBC Inc., to lead the completion of the project, and all major components and equipment of the facility would be ready to be delivered to the site.

Start-up of the factory and production of the first kilogram of green H2 will mark a significant achievement for Charbone, as the company implements its vision of “design and build” to develop a North American network of green H2 facilities modular and scalable.

The Sorel-Tracy green H2 project will serve as the company's flagship facility, giving Charbone the advantage of being the first to start production this year. The installation targets use industrial and replaces gray H2 with a clean, non-toxic and renewable alternative to fossil fuels. Already aligned with the decarbonization policies of the Quebec government, the factory will create up to 30 jobs when the 5 phases are completed.
