Germany approves subsidy for H2-ready gas power plants

According to Reuters, the German government has approved plans to subsidize gas power plants that can switch to H2 to speed up the transition to low-carbon generation. The ministry said the tender process for the four gas plants with a total capacity of up to 10 gigawatts would take place soon.

The state support for companies to build and operate the future H2-ready gas power plants will total around €16 B ($17 B), including capital and operating subsidies. The ministry said H2 transition plans should be drawn up by 2032 to enable the plants to be entirely switched to H2 between 2035 and 2040.
