The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has launched a call to find innovative solutions to improve electrolyzer efficiency. The five-week funding window opening on 7th March 2024 and closing 14th April.

Electrolyzers play a key role in the sustainable production of H₂, separating the H₂ and oxygen molecules found in water using electricity without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Improving the efficiency of H₂ production is crucial to the success of strategically located energy hubs that will integrate various energy vectors to meet national power demands and facilitate European and worldwide energy export.   

Technology developers can apply for funding to accelerate the development of their electrolyzer technology towards pilot or prototype level. Technology developers with technologies at a low TRL are encouraged to apply. Up to £500,000 of funding is available, to be split between three to five technologies.

Our funding competitions always bring to the fore a dynamic range of technologies that drive progress toward global energy goals.”

Scottish Government Minister for Energy, Just Transition and the Fair Work Gillian Martin said, “The Scottish Government is helping fund this important research into cutting the cost of H₂ production through our Energy Transition Fund. This will make H₂ more attractive to exporters and help secure new markets for our abundant renewable energy resources. We are supporting innovative, green technologies to spur on the just transition, build a sustainable economy and help reach net zero.”

This funding competition has been launched as part of the Energy Hubs Project, one of seven within the ETF funded Net Zero Technology Transition Program (NZTTP). The deadline for applications is 23:59 on Sunday 14th April 2024.
