The Hydrogen in Aviation (HIA) group, led by easyJet, has conducted a groundbreaking trial at Bristol Airport, using H2 to power ground support equipment. Known as Project Acorn, the trial aimed to inform regulatory guidance on H2 use in aviation and involved collaboration with the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).
According to Lahiru Ranasinghe of easyJet, H2 is seen as the future of short-haul aviation. The trial, which involved storing H2 in compressed gas form and refueling a baggage tractor using a hyQube station, marks a significant step in understanding and implementing H2 technology in airport operations.
