Hynion signs agreement with Uniper-owned OKG to secure H2 supply

Uniper-owned OKG has entered into an agreement with Hynion for the delivery of H2 from its H2 plant in Oskarshamn. With another supplier, Hynion ensures the availability of H2 and prepares for increasing H2-powered traffic in Sweden.

Hynion, which continuously strives to enhance the operational reliability of its H2 refueling stations, is now taking an important step by including OKG as one of its H2 suppliers. This partnership represents an important part of Hynion's strategy to reduce dependence on individual suppliers.

Uniper, the international energy company that owns OKG, plays an important role in over 40 countries and is a leading electricity producer in Sweden. Uniper's facilities, including fossil-free hydropower and nuclear power, are crucial for both secure energy supply and the ongoing energy transition. The H2 that Hynion will use is produced at OKG’s nuclear power plant, where Oskarshamn 3 (O3), one of the world's largest boiling water reactors, generated 9.2 TWh of carbon-free electricity in 2023, equivalent to 6.8 % of Sweden's total electricity consumption.

"We are very grateful for this collaboration. We need stable producers who, together with us at Hynion, want to contribute to the energy transition and a carbon-free future. The H2 delivery from OKG is an important step to secure the supply of H2 at our stations," said Slavica Djuric, CEO of Hynion AS.

"It is fantastic that the surplus production we sell can help Hynion with H2 for their refueling stations so that together we can help reduce carbon dioxide emissions," said Johan Lundberg, CEO of OKG.
