Eletrobras signs agreement with Prumo to produce green H2 at Brazilian port

Brazil's Eletrobras, the largest utility in Latin America, has signed a memorandum of understanding with infrastructure company Prumo to explore the production of green H2 in Rio de Janeiro's Port of Acu. This partnership could lead to the development of a pilot plant for green H2 production, with Eletrobras supplying hydroelectric power to support low-carbon H2 projects in the port. The agreement also allows for studies on large-scale projects.

Eletrobras aims to boost the H2 economy, making competitive H2 production feasible for customers. The initiative aligns with Prumo's vision of Port of Acu as an energy transition hub, focusing on renewable energy production and industries to reduce costs and carbon emissions. Notably, mining giant Vale is considering establishing an industrial complex in Acu for producing low-carbon iron ore products.
