H-TEC SYSTEMS presents solutions for green H2 at 'The smarter E Europe'

H-TEC SYSTEMS will be presenting high-performance electrolyzers for sustainable energy systems at this year's ees Europe as part of the leading European trade fair for the energy sector, The smarter E Europe 2024 in Munich. From June 19 to 21, visitors will have the opportunity to meet the experts for green H2 in hall B2 at booth 617.

The presence of the German PEM electrolysis specialist at the trade fair will be focused on scalable solutions that are specially designed to meet the rapidly growing capacity requirements of customers: the ME450 PEM electrolyzer for projects from 1 MW and the Modular H2 Platform (MHP), a scalable electrolyzer solution for large-scale H2 projects with capacities of 10 MW and more.

Compact design meets efficient H2 production: The ME450 PEM electrolyzer. The H-TEC SYSTEMS ME450 electrolyzer is the proven plug-and-play solution for the reliable and efficient production of green H2. With a capacity of 1 MW, the electrolyzer can produce 450 kg of highly pure H2 of grade 5.0 per day, which is e.g. suitable for mobility projects or power-to-X applications.

With a system efficiency of 75% at 30 bar pressure, the ME450 is currently the most efficient PEM electrolyzer in its class. If the exhaust heat is utilized in projects, e.g. for the regional heat supply of industry and private households, the electrolyzer achieves an even higher system efficiency of 90% and more.

The electrolyzer comes in a standard 40' container and is specially designed for customers looking for a quick and easy entry into H2 production and projects aimed at sector coupling. The multiple stack design as well as the high availability of the electrolyzer and the availability of spare parts help to minimize investment risks and lead to the lowest possible H2 production costs.

Green H2 production at a multi-megawatt scale. With the MHP, H-TEC SYSTEMS offers a scalable modular system that is designed to meet the requirements of large-scale H2 projects in industry and the energy sector.

The MHP supports the industrial production of green H2 by connecting individual 10-MW blocks to form multi-MW systems. Thanks to the scalable modular system, 10-MW blocks can be combined into multi-MW systems with an electrolysis capacity of 10 to 100 MW and more. The system is optimized for easy indoor installation on pre-assembled skids. Each 10 MW block is equipped with integrated process water treatment and electrical power supply. In addition, the system can be supplemented with fresh water and H2 treatment, as well as process heat recovery or oxygen utilization as required.

One of the most important features of the MHP is the extremely high system efficiency of 77% (51 kWh/kg) at 30 bar pressure, which is far above the usual values. The MHP achieves ground-breaking efficiency and availability, making it the ideal solution for H2 production in industrial operations. Thanks to the excellent system efficiency, high availability, and a proven maintenance concept, the MHP enables particularly low H2 production costs and stable, safe operation.

The highly standardized 10-MW modules of the MHP are based on the proven S450 stack technology platform, which is already successfully established on the market and has been continuously refined based on tests and practical experience.

“The H2 scale-up in Germany is an essential goal and we see it as our mission to drive the market development through innovative solutions and the creation of structures for large-scale series production,” explained Robin von Plettenberg, CEO of H-TEC SYSTEMS. “We are currently seeing high demand and many applications across the energy sector, industry and communities. The opening of our Gigahub stack production facility in Hamburg in September will be an important milestone towards meeting the growing demand even better in the future.”

In order to make green H2 affordable and competitive in the future, H-TEC SYSTEMS has been working on the completion of its Stack Manufacturing & Development Center in Hamburg Rahlstedt, near the Schleswig-Holstein border, since April 2023. From fall 2024, PEM electrolysis stacks with a total prospective electrolysis capacity of up to 5 gigawatts are to be manufactured there in an automated process. The stacks are the centerpiece of the PEM electrolyzer, which will be built at the company's headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. In addition to its proven S450 stacks, H-TEC SYSTEMS will also develop and produce a new generation of stacks with a higher output at the Stack Manufacturing & Development Center.
