(Reuters)--Germany's government has adopted a strategy to import H2 to support its transition to sustainable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The strategy outlines the logistics for importing H2, including transport, value chains and trade organization. It aims to attract potential suppliers and complements Germany's domestic H2 initiatives.
By 2030, Germany anticipates needing 95 terawatt hours (TWhr)−120 TWhr of H2 annually, increasing to 360 TWhr−500 TWhr by 2045 to achieve climate neutrality. Imports are expected to cover 50%−70% of this demand. Initial suppliers are expected to include Norway, Britain and Denmark. The energy industry has emphasized the need for rapid H2 availability and competitive pricing.
