INEOS Inovyn starts customers trials with Daimler Truck AG, using heavy-duty liquid H2 truck

Working with Daimler to trial a Mercedes-Benz GenH2 truck to supply our PVC customers, making around 250 deliveries over the next 12 months. INEOS Inovyn is Europe’s PVC leader and largest operator of industrial electrolysis; it is playing a leading role in developing a world run on renewable H2 production. Advances the vital development of H2 for heavy duty transport, helping accelerate a zero-emission future.

"H2 is a game-changing energy solution that will transform truck transportation and help us achieve a zero-emission future. As both a major producer and consumer of low-carbon H2, INEOS is in a unique position to help drive this change. We are delighted to be working with Daimler Truck," said Wouter Bleukx, Business Director H2 at INEOS Inovyn.

The Mercedes-Benz GenH2 Trucks are the first heavy duty liquid H2 trucks in Europe, benefiting from a range of more than 1,000 km they are able to carry the same payload as a conventional diesel vehicle. Along with Amazon, Air Products, Holcim and Wiedmann & Winz, we are working with Daimler Truck to run their first trial fleet in Germany.

Running over the next 12 months, INEOS will make around 250 customer deliveries across the Rheinberg area to understand fuel-cell technology in real-life operations, with an ambition to expand deliveries into Belgium and the Netherlands next year.

“INEOS is committed to reaching Net Zero and Daimler’s pioneering trial, is an exciting opportunity to help accelerate this transition. We transport nearly 3 MMtpy of PVC and continually look at ways to reduce our CO2 footprint,” Wouter said.

“INEOS invests in and prioritizes H2 production and storage, we believe that our innovations are leading the charge in creating a cleaner energy ecosystem that has H2 at its heart. We are Europe’s largest operator of electrolysis with over 125 years of experience, but to continue bringing low-carbon H2 solutions to market we will need significant support from governments to encourage infrastructure investment and business confidence.”

The trial also provides INEOS Inovyn’s PVC customers with the opportunity to reduce Scope 3 emissions and strengthen their own green credentials.
