Avina’s Southern California clean H2 project hits major milestone

Avina Clean Hydrogen has received the industrial new construction permit to proceed with the construction of its integrated H2 production and refueling facility in Southern California. Once operational, the facility will produce 1,400 metric tpy of compressed clean H2, enough to fuel nearly 100 fuel cell heavy-duty trucks and buses daily. With onsite dispensing systems, the facility will eliminate the logistical challenges that currently inflate H2 costs.

“By enabling onsite H2 production and refueling, our plant aims to provide the most cost-effective clean H2 solution for fleet operators looking to decarbonize their medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in Southern California,” said Vishal Shah, Founder & CEO of Avina Clean Hydrogen Inc.

By driving innovation in H2 production and infrastructure, this project not only strengthens California’s leadership in the green economy but also supports the state’s ambitious climate goals. Well-to-wheel emission savings enabled by this project are estimated to be nearly 40,000 tpy of CO2. With onsite H2 production and dispensing, the plant can produce lower-cost H2 by eliminating transportation logistics, making clean H2 more affordable for fleet operators. The plant’s scalable design ensures future growth to meet increasing H2 demand while advancing the infrastructure needed for widespread H2 adoption in the U.S.
