EU gives South Africa $35 MM in grants for green H2 plans

The European Union has committed ~$35 MM in grants to South Africa to boost its green H2 initiatives. Green H2, produced using renewable energy, is crucial for decarbonization and can be used in various industries.

The first grant of ~$140 MM rand ($7.8 MM) will support South African state company Transnet with infrastructure needs like railways and ports. The second grant of €25 MM ($27.6 MM) aims to develop South Africa's green H2 value chain. This investment aligns with both South Africa's and Europe's strategic goals for industrialization and energy transition.
