Shell has abandoned its plans for a low-carbon H₂ plant on Norway's west coast due to insufficient demand, following a similar decision by Equinor. Both companies had aimed to produce blue H₂, which involves deriving H₂ from natural gas with carbon capture but found it too costly compared to traditional methods.

Shell had intended to produce about 1,200 metric tpd of blue H₂ by 2030 at the Aukra H₂ Hub, but their partnership for the project expired in June, and they currently have no active H₂ projects in Norway.
