Shell shelves Norway H2 project due to lack of demand

Shell has abandoned its plans for a low-carbon H2 plant on Norway's west coast due to insufficient demand, following a similar decision by Equinor. Both companies had aimed to produce blue H2, which involves deriving H2 from natural gas with carbon capture but found it too costly compared to traditional methods.

Shell had intended to produce about 1,200 metric tpd of blue H2 by 2030 at the Aukra H2 Hub, but their partnership for the project expired in June, and they currently have no active H2 projects in Norway.
