Sonatrach (Algeria), Sonelgaz (Algeria), VNG (Germany), Snam (Italy), Seacorridor (Italy) and Verbund Green Hydrogen (Austria) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly conduct the necessary studies along the entire H2 value chain, in order to assess the feasibility and profitability of an integrated project for the production of green H2 in Algeria, intended to supply the European market through the “SoutH2 Corridor”.
The signing ceremony took place at the Oran Convention Center (CCO) and was chaired by the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, in the presence of members of the Government, Their Excellencies the Ambassadors of Italy, Germany and Austria, as well as the Chairman and CEO of the Sonatrach Group, Mr. Rachid Hachichi, the Chairman and CEO of Sonelgaz, Mr. Mourad Adjal, Mr. Hans-Joachim Polk, member of the Board of Directors of VNG, Mr. Sergio Molisani, Chief International Officer of Snam, Mr. Francesco Caria, CEO of SEACORRIDOR and Mr. Franz Helm, Managing Director of Verbund Green Hydrogen.
This MoU will enable the parties to jointly explore the opportunity to implement an integrated multi-stakeholder project along the entire green H2 value chain using the SoutH2 Corridor.
The SoutH2 Corridor will play a key role in reducing energy dependence on fossil fuels and promoting the energy transition towards a sustainable, low-carbon economy. The realization of this ambitious project has the potential to meet Europe's green energy needs and, at the same time, will strengthen Algeria's position as a major energy supplier to Europe.
