The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) granted EU financial support to the Pomeranian Green H2 Cluster project under the CEF Cross-border Renewable Energy instrument.
The Pomeranian Green H2 Cluster project aims to analyze the potential for green H2 generation in the West Pomeranian region where Sevivon plans to build wind and solar farms for the needs of renewable H2 production which can be further supplied via H2 transmission networks to end users both in Poland and Germany.
For this purpose, GAZ-SYSTEM established cooperation with PNE AG, its subsidiary Sevivon Sp. z o.o. and a German transmission system operator GASCADE Gastransport GmbH to analyze the potential for the development of H2 infrastructure in North-West Poland and North-East Germany.
Under the "CEF ENERGY” program, the European Commission launched a new category of cross-border projects in renewable energy eligible for co-financing under the recently established EU instrument (CEF Cross-border Renewable Energy Program). At the beginning of 2024, following the conclusion of the grant competition, the companies mentioned above applied for funding for the business analysis and studies for the Pomeranian Green H2 Cluster project which was favorably recognized by the CINEA. The action which was awarded €190,000 involves a feasibility study for the project and an assessment of the viability and conditions for the development of a H2 network in the German-Polish border area. The purpose of those activities is to enhance and optimize national efforts towards the production and use of renewable energy.
GAZ-SYSTEM is currently conducting its individual market screening project - H2 Map of Poland with the view to assessing the interest in H2 transport through the transmission network connecting domestic H2 producers, import sources, H2 storage facilities, end consumers, and local distribution networks.
In addition, GAZ-SYSTEM continues market dialogue regarding the feasibility of other H2 projects also in cross-border perspective such as the Nordic-Baltic H2 Corridor which was granted the PCI status (Project of Common Interest). The proposed H2 corridor linking Finland, the Baltic States, Poland and Germany, together with the new initiative - the Pomeranian Green H2 Cluster, constitute a comprehensive regional endeavor to explore the feasibility of a cross-border H2 network that will enable the transmission of renewable H2 between the countries in the Baltic region.
