Colombia's state-owned energy company, Ecopetrol, plans to invest $28.5 MM to construct a green H2 plant in Cartagena, projected to produce 800 tpy, making it the largest in Latin America.
The initiative aligns with President Gustavo Petro's goal to transition the country away from fossil fuels. Ecopetrol, also pursuing offshore wind projects, expects the green H2 production to contribute $400 MM–$485 MM annually to its earnings by 2040. CEO Ricardo Roa emphasized the company's commitment to clean fuel production.
