ebm-papst and HYTING forge partnership to accelerate development of H2 heat generators

ebm-papst, global leader in air technology and heating technology, and HYTING, a start-up for H2 heating systems, announced their strategic partnership to develop and manufacture H2-fueled heat generators.

HYTING's innovative concept offers a simple, safe, efficient and clean way to generate heat directly from H2, without combustion. The start-up has developed a forced-air heating system (patents-pending) that uses a unique catalytic process to turn H2 and oxygen from air into heat. The catalyst acts as a reaction accelerator. Unlike systems that rely on H2 combustion to generate heat, HYTING’s technology does not produce any nitrogen oxide (NOx), or particulate emissions – the only byproduct is water. Furthermore, it does not use flammable concentrations of H2 at any operating point.

It is modular and highly scalable in design, with outputs of 10 kW─300 kW, enabling it to be configured for a wide range of different heating applications, including commercial and residential buildings and heating systems for commercial vehicles. Prototypes are currently undergoing testing, with the first customer trials expected in Germany by Q1 2025.

In this partnership, ebm-papst will leverage its extensive experience and infrastructure to accelerate the development and market launch of HYTING's heat generator portfolio. The heating technology expert ebm-papst has been conducting research in the field of H2 for years, including in its in-house H2 laboratory at its Landshut location. The company's gas products are already certified for the admixture of H2 and can therefore be used perfectly in the HYTING heat generator. ebm-papst plans to manufacture the HYTING heat generators at its state-of-the-art production facilities.

“We are thrilled and proud to partner with ebm-papst,” said Tim Hannig, Founder and Managing Director of HYTING. “ebm-papst’s knowledge, skillset, experience and infrastructure massively accelerate and de-risk our time to market.”

“We see great potential in HYTING's innovative technology and are therefore pleased to partner with HYTING in a joint R&D collaboration. This is in line with our multi-technology approach in heating technology,” said Dr. Hannes Säubert, CEO of Heating Technology at ebm-papst.
