Quest One supplies two PEM electrolyzers to Ingenion for regional mobility project

H2 electrolysis specialist Quest One supplies two ME450 Electrolyzers for a mobility project of Regional Transport Cologne GmbH (RVK). The engineering firm Ingenion is building a H2 filling station in the Mechernich Peternheide, a former German Armed Forces site. The H2 filling station, which is scheduled to go into operation at the end of 2026, is part of an innovation project for renewable energy sources in the regional public transport.

The two Quest One electrolyzers will be utilized to produce, store and fuel vehicles with green H2 directly on site. Each ME450 has an electrolysis capacity of one megawatt and can produce 450 kilograms of grade 5.0 high-purity H2 from green electricity every day, which can be used directly in H2 buses or other fuel cell vehicles.

RVK already operates the largest H2 bus fleet in Europe with over 100 H2 buses and is continuously expanding it to achieve its goal of “zero emissions” by 2030. Following its existing H2 filling stations in Meckenheim and Wermelskirchen, the public transport provider now aims to build the first station including electrolyzers for the onsite production of green H2. For this purpose, Ingenion is relying on Quest One's highly efficient electrolyzers. Once completed, the filling station will also be accessible to the public.

The Hamburg-based project developer Ingenion was awarded the contract for the supply, construction and commissioning of the H2 filling station, including electrolyzers and storage, in December 2024. With an increasing focus on projects in the areas of sustainability and decarbonization, Ingenion has extensive project expertise in the areas of H2, PV and electromobility.
