Two leading component suppliers in the field of anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzers are teaming up to develop turnkey solutions for the faster adoption of this critical technology. Ionomr Innovations, a manufacturer of hydrocarbon-based membranes and ionomers, and Jolt Solutions, a manufacturer of nickel-based activated electrodes, signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The agreement involves integrating membranes and electrodes to generate knowledge which can be passed to the market to ease development activities and increase the performance, durability and ease manufacturing of AEM electrolyzers. By providing thorough advice on the integration of these vital components, the end users will benefit from the wealth of knowledge generated by the companies.
The two companies have strong synergies, both recognized as leaders in the field. Both Jolt and Ionomr have already scaled production to support GW scale adoption of AEM electrolysis and can further scale as the market grows.
AEM electrolyzer technology is widely recognized as the future of H2 production, offering the benefits of both PEM and AWE without the drawbacks. AEM technology uses no, or very low levels, of precious metals and can operate at elevated current densities giving them a smaller footprint and high H2 production rate, while the membrane technology prevents H2 and oxygen mixing, allowing for rapid ramp rates and highly effective pairing with renewable technology.
