IMI wins contract with Polytec Energy Srl to supply a 1-MW PEM electrolyzer for its H2_Polytec project

IMI has won a contract with Polytec Energy Srl to supply a 1-MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzer for its H2_Polytec Project in Storo, Italy.

The project was among the winners of the call issued by the Autonomous Province of Trento for the construction of a green H2 production plant in disused industrial areas, as part of Mission 2 'Green Revolution and Ecological Transition' of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

Promoted by Polytec Energy Srl and its parent company Polytec Spa, IMI’s electrolyser will be used to trial green H2 production techniques, with the unit powered by a dedicated renewable supply of photovoltaic systems at a total installed capacity of 4.4 MWp.

The H2 produced will be used at industrial sites across the Storo region, specifically the Ex-Paisoli area, where end users will use it for painting and drying processes, as well as in metalworking furnaces.

Alessandro Lauria, Sales Director at IMI, said: " This project represents a concrete step towards the decarbonization of industry and the regeneration of brownfield sites, especially the Ex-Paisoli in Storo. The installation of our PEM electrolyzer, powered exclusively by photovoltaic energy, is a great example of how technology can be environmentally friendly, while also enabling us to regenerate industrial areas.”

Mattia Rosa, Project Manager at Polytec Energy Srl, added: "The project is running smoothly and on schedule. With the funding obtained and the addition of a direct investment that we chose to add, the green H2 Polytec produces will contribute to the industrial area’s energy transition. We hope to see the project’s wider benefits in the local area, bringing increased employment and development of new skills.”
