The H2 facility of the food retailer MPREIS in Völs, Tyrol (Austria), is changing ownership: Following intensive and successful negotiations, Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH is fully acquiring the electrolysis plant, including the associated H2 refueling station, trailer filling system, and the local H2 expert team.
“This acquisition marks another significant step for the Tyczka Group in the production of green H2,” said Dr. Frank Götzelmann, CEO of the Tyczka Group. With this move, Tyczka Hydrogen continues to expand its cross-border network and improves the supply situation for green H2 in southern Germany, Austria, and northern Italy.
The acquisition is the result of a long-standing, trust-based partnership in H2 production and marketing between the two family-owned companies. Both are deeply rooted in their respective regions and share the same goal: making a sustainable contribution to the energy transition.
In recent years, MPREIS has been a pioneer in H2 at the Völs site. Tyczka Hydrogen will now carry this vision forward and initiate the next development steps. The entire expert team of MPREIS Hydrogen GmbH will be taken over, ensuring uninterrupted operation of the facility. Both companies have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.
Thomas Zorn, Managing Director of Tyczka Hydrogen GmbH: “With this acquisition, we are reaching another milestone in our business development: We are investing strategically in expanding an independent and reliable H2 supply. Together with the site team and our partners, we will further develop and strategically expand our H2 activities – especially towards Austria and northern Italy.”
David Mölk, member of the MPREIS management board: “With our H2 project, we took on a pioneering role in western Austria and brought the country’s first H2 truck onto the road. For the further development of this promising technology, we have found a strong partner in Tyczka Hydrogen.”
Efficient H2 production and refueling. The heart of the facility is an alkaline pressure electrolysis system from Sunfire, serving as a robust backbone for green H2 production. The H2 refueling station, also part of the acquisition, remains a key supply component – including for MPREIS logistics, which will continue to be reliably supplied with H2 at the site. The station is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and offers H2 at a pressure level of 350 bar, making it suitable for various commercial vehicles and buses. H2 will also continue to be used as an emission-free energy source in the Therese Mölk bakery.
