Neoenergia and Honda have announced a strategic collaboration to boost the development of green hydrogen-based initiatives for urban mobility and road transport in Brazil.
The partnership will take place at Neoenergia's first green hydrogen filling station in the country, located in Brasilia (DF). The project is part of the Research, Development and Innovation Program (PDI), regulated by the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL), with an investment of more than R$30 MM ($5.6 MM). The vehicle refueling station will be inaugurated in December 2025.

Honda will be part of the project with the aim of fostering research and innovation, contributing to technology demonstrations and feasibility studies and exploring joint opportunities in the production and use of green hydrogen, with a special focus on urban mobility, as well as industrial applications.
At the refueling station, technical tests and validations will be carried out with the Honda CR-V and the model: FCEV, a plug-in hybrid electric SUV with hydrogen fuel cell. The car will be tested for six months.
The aim is to develop complementary alternatives that help in the decarbonization process of the automotive sector, contributing to the common goal between both companies of carbon neutrality by 2050.
"This collaboration reinforces our commitment to innovative solutions that accelerate the electrification and decarbonization of the Brazilian economy. Together with Honda, we are joining forces to develop sustainable technologies that expand business opportunities and consolidate Neoenergia's leadership in the energy transition," says Eduardo Capelastegui, CEO of Neoenergia.
"We are very excited to start this strategic collaboration with Neoenergia in Brazil, a country that meets all the conditions to be a world leader in the development of Green Hydrogen. With more than three decades of experience and research in this field, we believe that initiatives like this are essential to expand the possibilities of using hydrogen as a complementary way for the process of decarbonization of mobility and strengthen the path towards a carbon-neutral society," says Arata Ichinose, CEO of Honda Automóveis do Brasil.
Green hydrogen: The fuel of the future. Green hydrogen is produced by electrolysis of water from renewable sources and is emerging as a solution to decarbonize sectors such as heavy transport and industry. Iberdrola, the Spanish company that controls Neoenergia, is one of the leaders in this segment, already operating similar projects in Europe and is committed to Brazil as a world leader in clean energy and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen.
Honda: Three decades of leadership in hydrogen technology. Honda has been leading the development of hydrogen-based technologies for more than 30 years and considers this element as one of the pillars to achieve its goal of carbon neutrality by 2050. In addition to commercial vehicles, the company invests in applications such as stationary generators and construction machinery, consolidating its leadership in sustainable solutions for different sectors.
The technology used in hydrogen-powered vehicles is based on fuel cells that convert hydrogen into electricity efficiently and cleanly. The stored green hydrogen reacts with oxygen in the air to generate electricity, which powers the vehicle's battery and electric motor.
All this happens silently, efficiently and without the emission of polluting gases, releasing only water through the exhaust pipe. It is a clean, sustainable and innovative solution, ready to transform the future of mobility.
