Chad begins by providing a background of Advanced Ionics, explaining that the company, based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is developing a unique type of electrolyzer technology that operates at intermediate temperatures to support the decarbonization of heavy industries like ammonia and petrochemicals. He shares his personal journey from growing up on a family farm in North Dakota to leading a clean tech company, emphasizing his early exposure to H2 and his dissatisfaction with traditional electrolysis methods.

Chad then describes the company's product, named "Symbian," which operates around 300˚ C, allowing it to utilize low-temperature waste heat from industrial facilities, thereby reducing electricity usage significantly compared to traditional methods. This new technology is designed to be symbiotic with existing industrial processes, making it easier for these industries to adopt greener practices.

Further, Chad elucidates on the financial aspects of electrolysis, noting that operational expenditures (OPEX) usually make up a significant portion of the total H2 production costs. He highlights that Symbian uses widely available materials like nickel-based catalysts and standard-grade stainless steel to keep capital expenditures (CAPEX) low.

Touching upon policy implications, Chad discusses the potential impact of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) and the importance of including various clean energy sources like nuclear and hydro in policy measures. He also mentions Advanced Ionics' backing by BP and other investors, pointing to the confidence major firms have in their technology and approach.

As the conversation wraps up, Chad talks about the future, envisioning that in five years, Advanced Ionics will move towards commercial scale with their "Apollo generation stack," comparable in size and efficiency to large alkaline systems.
